What we say

Rating: happy This record left our BRIAN D feeling happy.

Lastly from me is the new CD by Disco Drive. On Unhip, Italy's premier post-rock lovin' indie, 'Things to do Today ' splices up strands of Dischord inspired math rock (see Q and Not You etc) & Liars' voodoo percussive workouts into a whirling, compulsive soup of hypnotic, loud funky alt rock. Straddling the chasm between punk funk and edgy post hardcore, they're a talented proposition are these chaps, as deserving of your attention as their Yank counterparts! CD with vinyl TO FOLLOW SOON!

What the label says:

Formed in 2002, Disco Drive are one band who taken the DIY ethos and ran with it. They have worked super hard creating a buzz in both their home country Italy and here on our own fine shores.
Over 200 shows later these boys have an picked up an impressive collection of fellow musical admirers having played shows with the likes of The Long Blondes, Klaxons, !!!, Deerhoof, Help She Can’t Swim, Hot Club de Paris and The Thermals
’Things To Do Today’ was mixed by Steve Revitte (DFA. Liars, LCD Soundsystem, Beastie Boys).
It’s an 11-track beauty of fast moving punk excitement that most bands would struggle to maintain. From the electro tinged ’The Flower Stall’ to the title track ’Things To Do Today’ with its clock chiming rap synth moves, Disco Drive achieve their aim to push the boundaries whilst keeping the people dancing.
Musically, Disco Drive begin where all the neo-new wave bands end. They allow themselves to delve into
experimentation. They redefine the boundaries between noise and melody, rhythm and improvisation, pop and the avant-garde.

About the humble CD:

The CD is essentially a small portable face mirror which has an extra feature of being able to play music (through a thing known as a CD player). These CD's are a modern invention hence them being all shiny and digital. They can hold about 80 minutes of music and apparently are indestructible as you can smear jam on them and they still play (not as nourishing as toast mind you but when you're hungry.....). They sound crystal clear and are tiny convenient things. They lack the charm and warmth of their old analogue counterparts but their portability, convenience and ease of being duplicated make them a perfect thing of a thing for most folks. Jewel cases are the worst thing ever though and they really need to stop.

'Are you gonna charge me for that bin?'
