See You At Regis Deray the new film by boundary challenging filmmaker CS Leigh tells the story of the days Andreas Baader spent in the Paris apartment of Regis Debray when he went on the run from the law from Germany in 1969. Debray himself was in prison in Bolivia at the time having been convicted of among other things being a comrade of Che Gievera. For a brief moment these vastly different paths met in absence. The film is made of ten single takes of seven to ten minutes each shot on 35mm by the great cinematographer Yorgos Arvanitis with whom Leigh worked on his 2005 film PROCESS which was featured in the Official Selection at the Berlin International Film Festival and in over 35 films festivals and released by Tartan in the UK and in many other territories.
The film’s sound has been created by experimental sound artist Ryoji Ikeda. The complete film soundtrack is released by syntax as a limited edition two cd set in February 2008. For CS Leigh releasing the complete film soundtrack is another way of making his film available to the public existing at once as part of a related project though at the same time as a different experience. In this form it is a film to "hear." It is Ryoji Ikeda’s first work made specifically for cinema. CS Leigh on the collaboration with Ryoji Ikeda - “It was Ryoji Ikeda I wanted to work with from the moment I finished making the film and studying the rushes. I am incredibly impressed by the range of his artistic practice and I wanted to try to open up my cinema to include him. This was not simple to organise and I believe it was not exactly easy for Ryoji Ikeda to work with me and to give himself over to another artist’s vision while still retaining his own autonomy as an artist. He was incredibly respectful of my film and the sounds that were born of this collaboration are fascinating and add another layer of meaning.”
