What the label says:

Dead Meadow have returned with a fifth studio album that is both delicate and with purpose, and in subtle ways ‘Old Growth’ reminds us of where the band have been stylistically. However, this is no 10-year retrospective but rather an uncompromising stretch of their artistic roots. Dead Meadow have broadened their song writing, gained new ground and, from every drop of ink on the sleeve to every humming noise, chord and pounding beat, reinforced their ‘eight of cups’ to move to a higher spirit and redefine themselves, and our ears, musically. We are forced to go forward with them, to climb that mountain, leave our earthly problems behind and most importantly grow up. To piece these artefacts together the band enlisted Dave Schiffman (Mars Volta, BRMC and Johnny Cash) to mix and add additional production at the famous Los Angeles recording studio Sunset Sound. After two weeks of exploring Jim Morrison’s echo chambers and Van Halen’s live room, the band were ready to ship the reels to NYC for mastering by legendary engineer Howie Weinberg (famous for his work with Nirvana). Here he saturated the sound and made the jamming stew thick and scrumptious.
Not to be overlooked is the artwork for ‘Old Growth’. More than just a simple sleeve to market an album, ‘Old Growth’ was designed to tell a story. This sleeve is intended to bring the listener to the quiet places that inspired the music to begin with.
·What they’re saying about Dead Meadow: “feels like a revelation […] DC stoner metal Gods” – NME; “in the major league of noisy, out-there rock ‘n’ roll for this or any era” - The Guardian; “Psych-rock doesn’t get much better” - Time Out; “Get immersed” - Plan B; “you can never have too much Dead Meadow in your collection” - Rock Sound; “We would stand at the side of the stage and headbang along before it was our turn to go” - Gruff Rhys of Super Furry Animals in Mojo; “Dead Meadow make the best make-out music (10)” – Vice.

About the humble CD:

The CD is essentially a small portable face mirror which has an extra feature of being able to play music (through a thing known as a CD player). These CD's are a modern invention hence them being all shiny and digital. They can hold about 80 minutes of music and apparently are indestructible as you can smear jam on them and they still play (not as nourishing as toast mind you but when you're hungry.....). They sound crystal clear and are tiny convenient things. They lack the charm and warmth of their old analogue counterparts but their portability, convenience and ease of being duplicated make them a perfect thing of a thing for most folks. Jewel cases are the worst thing ever though and they really need to stop.
