Here's a taster from the forthcoming School of Language album on Memphis Industries. In case you don't know who he is he's the singer out of Field Music. Apparently they all have solo projects coming out.... lordy me. It's a 7" called Rockist Single and it's one of my favourite tracks from the forthcoming album. Firstly the production smacks you in the face. It's massive.... everything sounds loud! It's quintessentially English sounding quirky pop music.... think XTC and 10CC.. doesn't sound like either of 'em but they have their approach to quirky songwriting... It does pretty much sound like Field Music.... the vocals remind me a bit of Eric Matthews at times. Cracking tune this... maybe even a spot of Cornelius in here... well good!! What the label says: The first fruits of Field Music’s new creative dawn is no disappointment.

About the humble 7":

The humble 7" is the smallest of the vinyl formats (not including the ridiculous 5") and it's the perfect medium for transporting a couple of new songs by up and coming bands straight into your ears. They're fun and they take up less space in your house than something bigger would. They come in a plethora of exciting colours and fantastical packages, and you can fit about 14 minutes onto one 7". You may have to get up every few minutes to put a new record on but think of the exercise. Don't forget every record you buy plays at least 2 speeds (depending on your stereo) and you need to play all records on all speeds to get the maximum joy from your purchase.
