What we say
We've just entered into a wee debate about electronic dance music that's trying to be too clever for its own good...Warp have been promising for a while now that Clark is the new Aphex squarepusher. He does have his moments and his tougher recent sound aint bad by any means but occasionally you get the feeling that you just wish he'd let the groove flow and stop being such a smarty pants. To his credit though there are moments when he does so decent dark abstract techno.... Clanking beats and smatterings of acid and some alright abstract rhythms etc. He even gets a bit discordant and crunchie at times and all. He's clearly a talented fella. What the label says:Chris Clark follows up his last full length ‘Body Riddle’ with a harder, more rave-oriented sound Features all new material. Backed up by live dates and a comprehensive online promo strategy. Clark has previously supported the likes of Tortoise, and most recently Amon Tobin at London’s Forum. Described by many as the heir to Aphex Twin and Squarepusher’s crown. |
