What we say
This record left our BRIAN D feeling ecstatic.
Thank god for Vex'd and their long awited official release for the classic '3rd Choice' The general feeling of this latest Planet Mu 12" is that it could not have come out without the stunning Loefah remix on the flip. As that mix was "lost" for a couple of years this was shelved. Until now! Apparently Loefah dropped some bacon down the side of his oven & when he went to retrieve it he found the remix asleep behind his fridge, lulled into a soporific state by the humming noise of said Zanussi science appliance. Aw! Anyway, the tune is a brilliantly brooding, haunting deep-tech burner which regardles of the press release shouting at me, DOES actually sound like a stripped down Photek on Mogadon. Or Technical Itch on 33. The freshly awoken re-jig on side two from the DMZ dwelling maestro is a little more playful & dubby, showcasing a subtle shift in direction. Then these huge haunting synths come in like sighing megalithic druids & your spine starts to tingle orgasmically. There's a dark, dark soul at work here, both digital & organic shades erupt making this double header a pure wise master in an ever-evolving scene. We proper dig this here so SOTW?
What the label says:
In anticipation of their new album, Vex’d finally unleash this 2006 monster on vinyl. A DMZ anthem since it’s debut in March 2006 and played by Youngsta, Kode9, Mala, Loefah etc. it’s been a firm favourite on the scene and eagerly requested for vinyl release since. The reason for the delay? We have finally managed to get hold of the masters to Loefah’s classic remix which have been lost since late 2006. Reminiscent of Photek’s early form and function series of 12"s, this b-side is probably his finest work to date.
