I seem to be the man entrusted with retrospectives recently! Am I just getting old or what?? On quite a contrast with the above slab of wax is this Lost At Sea compilation CD of St. Christopher's Sarah records output in the early 1990's. Now I bought a handful of these songs at the time and am bowled over at just how Scouse this York 3 piece sound! It's got big splashes of The Icicle Works and The Lotus Eaters in there, early Postcard sensitivity, a dash of Felt, a wee smidge of early Pulp and even on some later more accomplished tunes, Cass McCombs yearning, janglesome origins. Someone mentioned Marc almond yesterday. Singer Glenn Melia does touch upon that wavering soul. Overall they stood out from much of the jangly twee scene because they seemed intent on creating lush, classical pop which even nods towards Prefab Sprout on occasion but overall the 18 tracks here (culled from 4 EP's and a mini album in chronological order) are as icily magic and timeless as The Field Mice (a band they shared some sonic boundaries with (gliding, musical bass rhythms and a sensitive male quavering vocal) I'm confident that fans of Death Cab For Cutie and bands of that ilk could find some real gems on here. Through Plastilina, a Peruvian indie behemoth!
