Elixir Records is a collaboration between former Wall of Sound
foot-soldier, Dr Slavery, The Freelance Hellraiser and the world’s
biggest rum smugglers, Bacardi.
First up on this new label is
Lalula with Supa Bajo, a track written and produced by Freelance
Hellraiser. You might remember Lalula from the Freelance/Freeform Five
colab; Pound For Pound which tore up dancefloors a while back. Like a
Spanish speaking M.I.A backed by a robot Led Zep army, the track
charges at you like some deranged Pamplona bull hell bent on revenge.
The package also comes complete with some amazing mixes from South
Central, Ashley Beedle, Fuzzy Kerbox and Emperor Machine.
The
limited double 7” release is unique, you’ll have to mix the 2 A sides
together at exactly the right spot to hear the original version.
Annoying I’m sure you’ll agree, but strangely addictive and a true test
of any budding DJ’s mettle.
On the B’s, South Central chop the original to within an inch of it’s life
only
to smother it with some heavy heavy bass and guitar riffs transforming
it into a peak time indie/electro monster . Emperor Machine on the
other hand does what he does best and warps the original into a boiling
kosmische epic.
If you find the original track familiar, that
could be from hearing it on the box in Bacardi’s latest TV ad.
Something that’s prompted us to get a full version out there into the
music community.
