...according to our Brian on Thu 20 Dec, 2007.
From the old & almost lost, to the sprightly "here & now". 'The Sounds of the Rhubarb Triangle' is an 18 track comp of low key acts from the Wakefield area, home of the Cribs & The Research. Now, I don't get out much these days except to fall over at Dubstep nights after too many sweet stouts. The kids keep on forming all these bands & to be honest, a shambling dump like Wakey really shouldn't have such a vibrant scene as this but it has. How come Bradford only ever produced a handful of mainly awful rock troupes? Therefore I'm really impressed. It's a cross section of good, rocking Northern indie, showcasing the many styles of working class guitar pop that are so prevalent today. There's a piano led female singer songwriter Tori Amos jobbie on here somewhere too just to break up the guitars one suspects! I can't pick anything specific out but I'll just say this is around the 3 quid mark & £1 of the proceeds goes to legendary organisation The Samaritans, a vital helpline for troubled & endangered folk of all ages in the UK that has been going for years and always needs our kind support. It's always great to hear what an area outside the grim metropolis has been nurturing too.Entitled 'The Sounds of the Rhubarb Triangle' it is limited to 300 copies with a £1 from each copy sold being donated to the Samaritans.
