Phil really like the These New Puritains 'Elvis' single. So much so that he's chosen for me to review it because he's so angry the only words he can write are about kicking peoples faces off. 'Elvis' is an obvious choice for a single as it's probably the most catchy and immediate track from the album. It sounds nothing like Elvis but it does have a big chugging bassline and the percussion is really sharp sounding. These guys are receiving lots of attention at the moment and this anthemic tune will cement their current reputation. The frenetic and intense second single from These New Puritans offers a further taste of the forthcoming 2008 debut album ‘Beat Pyramid’. With its dancefloor filling chant of “Elvis! I wasn’t talking about that king!”, ‘Elvis’ is weird pop for the 21st century. The extraordinary and original video is directed by Saam (Klaxons / Lightspeed Champion), and is truly mesmerising and disturbing.
