Insides by Lets Go Naked

Sometimes you get a retrospective of a band from eons ago that you missed completely first time round. Last year it was Artery. I gave them such a great write up, my fingers bleeding, heart palpitations etc, they reformed and are gigging again. Well, that might be Jarvis Cocker's fault not mine....My ego takes no prisoners. After loving compilations of Perth, Scotland's This Poison! & late 80's Aussie nomads Even as we Speak, the wonderful Egg records have unleashed 'Insides', a 16 track retrospective from Brisbane's Let's Go Naked. I literally cannot stop playing this jangly sod. Every chord change thrills me. It's the sound of C86 in rude form. Euphoric, celebratory guitars, bouncing playful bass, thumping neanderthal drums and a ramshackle spirit that delights from start to finish. It's the sound of The Go-Betweens being savaged by The Bodines, The Close Lobsters & The Chills simultaneously. If you even think you've a fondness for 20 year old John Peel tapes, NHS specs & battered doc martens, paisley shirts & Mozzer quiffs then you must lend your ears this superb CD. The organ on opener Three Limbs makes me cry. It must be the one Tillmanns used for their wonderful single last year. There can't be many organs that sound as though they are operated by a small hamster breathing into a pipe. This is utterly classic music, largely taken from studio sessions between '86 & '95 and the tunes herein fulfill your dreams 100% more than the sight of a profusely sweating David Gedge having a heart attack attempting to recreate George Best without any of his original band (perish the thought) The band have apparently reformed (2 tracks on here are new allegedly) & are plumping up for an '08 relaunch which is lovely news! Not as fun as the fact the bassist is a famous news anchorman on telly!
