Harmony Rockets - Paralyzed Mind of the Archangel Void

Paralyzed Mind of the Archangel Void by Harmony Rockets

4...according to our on Thu 20 Dec, 2007.

Harmony Rockets are an offshoot of Mercury Rev and here's an album which was available once and then became unavailable for some reason or other. I did know but then I forgot. Such is the magical power of booze and it's amazing ability to cripple memory. I was never a massive fan of the latter Mercury rev stuff but the early stuff did it for me. This album reminds me of the 30 minute sprawl out track that was on the Car Wash Hair CD. I did know what that was called once 'n all. Lordy me. This is a big psyched out sprawling mess that will take you on a journey through magical kingdoms of drugs and brightly coloured things for a whole 41 minutes. It's hard trying to get a full grip of this in the time I have to review this (much akin to brushing your hair with a dog...) but I tried my best and that is call you can do.

Harmony Rockets is a Mercury Rev side project which has been gigging again in New York this year.

"Paralyzed Mind of the Archangel Void" consists of ONE track, which runs to 41:40 minutes, recorded live at the
Rhinecliff Hotel in upstate New York in 1995.

It was initially released in 1995 as a limited edition of 500 copies, then a limited re-release on CD in October 1997 on Big Cat.

The album starts out sweetly enough, then builds and builds, until finally arriving at a sublime conclusion. Said Jonathan: "Basically, what it is, is most of Mercury Rev, that you see up there [stage], we're trying to kill a Friday night in the mountains, got really wasted and wandered down to a local Civil War bar. Yeah, just made up on the spot."

The line-up for this recording: Jonathan Donahue, Grasshopper, Adam Snyder, Jason Russo, Jimy Chambers, Suzanne Thorpe, Mark Marinoff .
