Lowfish - Burn the Lights Out

Burn the Lights Out by Lowfish

Canada's most well known hybrid-electro producer is something of a genre straddling oddity. His clinical but catchy tracks are both very "new school" and yet still built from the DNA of early IDM and new wave. The weapons of choice are what they have been from the start - semi-operational analogue synthesizers, temperamental TR drum machines and scratchy recording gear all forced into the computer, with a production aesthetic that is lo- “ish”… hence the name Lowfish. Since 1995 he has released four full lengths and a stack of 12”s and remixes on labels including Suction, Erstaz Audio, Clone, Morr, Ghostly, Lo and Satamile. ‘Burn The Lights Out’ is an uncompromising 12 tracks of new school electro and the first Lowfish album since 2004, revealing a darker and harder Lowfish obsessing about the details while staying true to his signature mix of analogue electronics, catchy melodies and industrial strength bass. Recorded over 3 years, the title is a reference to machines broken (literally burned out) in the process of making this record, an epic floor-pounding journey into post-modern electro wave noir. "Lowfish's music is deceptively simple, enormously catchy modern electro, eschewing currently fashionable digital trickery for good old analog skills. “ - XLR8R… "Meloldic electronica and hip swinging electro... beautiful basslines, delicate vocoder and ironed out two step... incredibly inventive" – MUZIK… "His sound skirts a lot of edges... echoes of classic 80's industrial [and] genuine Kraftwerkian tendencies" – URB.
