east london’s get crucial appeal as much to the indie gravers as the candy kids, playing outside genre definitions to create their own sound. for debut single ‘planes’ they have taken their melting pot of influences such as brainiac, arab on radar and polvo, and added the lure of many a classic cod rock song. the result : ultimate noise pop. get crucial are a band that manage to make playing live easy. the first gig began as a dare at a house party with bassist andrew playing in a bedroom whilst cesca and drummer mikey played in the living room, and their improv experimentation led to them being signed by ramp after their third show. they have become infamous for their on-stage antics including arguments over what to play next and asking a member of the audience to hold a broken jack lead for their entire set. they continually bicker before leaping into a blistering array of both new material and free form revisions of older songs, and as long they can be prevented from imploding on the spot from arguments over whether they’re either selling out or not selling themselves enough, then they are definitely tipped as one of the bands for 2008. if the wombats are the catalyst for thankfully ending the reign of lad rock, then get crucial are pioneers of the post-millennium party; showing that you can pick the tasty morsels from trends and create a whole new bag of unkempt chaos. the original version of ‘planes’ tears through three minutes of flaming feedback and tight rhythmic attack, leaving in its wake a vision of broken tree stumps and smouldering ear-drums. on the flip, breakcore punk terrorists infants dismantle the engine, lay out the parts on the carpet and burn the manual, creating a spliced and looped heavy-mental-technotic robothump that’ll shake the cones right out of your speakers. 500 copies only in hand-stamped sleeve.
