Hoodz & 6Blocc: 'Haile Sellasie I' (Tribe Steppaz) No doubt coming out of the new fangled digi-dub inspired dub-step scene, this righteous sounding slab of rootsy dubstep owes as much to the spirituality of roots reggae as dub. All rasta chants, percussive strains and trademark bassline drops. The flip chops up the famous '900 Number' (Dj Mark the 45 King) break to devastating effect, more like a early junglist throwdown but with 21st century editing. The analogue style spurts and farts makes for a heady, old school flow. A strong 12" with varying influences from it's founding genres. What the label says: After the sucess of vol. 1 we now have the pleasure of, you guessed it, vol. 2. Straight out of L.A. we have 6Blocc with two massive tracks that have been causing damage on the floors all over the world. ‘Haile Selassie I’ is fused with reggae feeling with enough bass to shake and break any speakers. ‘Babylonia’ takes the famous sample from the classic Jamaican movie ‘Rockers’ and makes an anthem to be proud of. About the humble 12":

The 12" is the big brother of records as it's an fatter version of the 7", with a vast scope for an array of remixes and B sides. They are slightly less portable their smaller inched brethren but they're by no means inferior. Often the grooves are spaced wider apart and thus sound much much better. You can fit ample tracks on and if worse comes to worse they make fine plates (should your crockery go awol). Yes, there's a hole but holes are easy to sort out. Once again they're available on many different colours and guises. The best thing about a 12" is the potential vastness of the artwork. Also playable on many speeds!!
