TRACKLISTING: 1 We Swear By The Light Life, 2 Cemetary, 3 Cold Theatre,
OVERVIEW: Manchester-based The Maple State release their second single 'We Swear by the Light Life' on December 3rd through High Voltage Sounds. It follows February's sell-out debut 7" 'Joanna' and signals the bands intentions ahead of a mini-album release scheduled for early 2008. Since the spring, the band has worked religiously on a batch of eye-catching new songs, bolstered by the addition of guitarist Rick Higginbottom. The quintet played a string of theatre-sized dates in February with +44, culminating in a rammed show at Brixton Academy. The band also played sets at the Glastonbury festival, plus a 2 week headline tour in June in front of their loyal fan base. Recording for the mini-album was done with Tom Knot (The Earlies) in Manchester and mixed by Belgium production team Das Pop. A natural progression on the groups earlier efforts, the new recordings are dowsed in melody, with inspiration coming from US indie-forefathers Sonic Youth, Modest Mouse and The Decemberists, whilst the bands punk-pop roots (The Get Up Kids remain a constant inspiration) stay firmly in the mix. Lead by a pummelling rhythm section, We Swear by the Light Life is sharp, direct, melodic indie-pop topped off by frontman Greg’s impassioned vocal shouts. 2008 will see The Maple State finish the writing of their full debut album whilst continuing to hone their razor-sharp live performances. The packaging will consist of each CD in an individually envelope, printed by the band, an insert displaying the artwork is also included. This release is limited to 700 copies only.
