Planivaar: 'The Green Boat' (Make Mine) Five track CD of soothing, ethereal, driftwise electronica that will appeal to fans of Colleen's chiming, tinkling, charms. The most appealling aspect of this collection is the understated simplicity and economy of means used to develop enveloping, warm and glistening loops that fold in on each other. In the spaces in, above and around the loops are other serial blips and detritus floating back and forth across the uncomplicated soundfield. I've really enjoyed listening to this, just the right sort of stuff to ease me into the new year. This sounds like electronica made by a producer with a keen ear and a concentrated attention to detail lacking in so much loop based constructions. Reccomended.

2007 has been the busiest year yet for the artists’ co-operative Make Mine Music with eight releases so far including full-length albums by Epic45, Library Tapes and All Sides. The latest name to be added to the Make Mine Music roster is Planivaar whose debut release for the label is the mini-album “The Green Boat”. Planivaar began in 2005 as the experimental side project of artist Mark Lippett. There is no set approach but generally the music blends atmospheric guitar and keyboard with samples and found sounds.  The first album, “The Orange Balloon”, was released on net label Earth Monkey Productions in 2005, followed by the CD album “The Yellow Square” on Split Femur Recordings earlier this year. 2007 also marked the live debut of Planivaar where the performances were partially improvised sets of new music.  “The Green Boat” is based on one of these concerts with added samples and overdubs.  A thirty-minute drifting performance split into five connected pieces, the music on “The Green Boat” was inspired by late night conversations at a time when it would be wise to go to sleep.
