What we say This record left our Mingus feeling happy. Vera November: 'Red Dream' Which is like a cross between the pomp of a euro-disco style party tune dissolving into a humble visit to Mass at Christmas. It's the way it trots between the dancefloor and the pulpit. Strange indeed: snappy beats, crackly atmospherics, organ hum-drone then back into the clap-along a Barbara Morgenstern meets Electrelane (sez Man At The Helm). Xmas is such wierd time for records like this. Spectral! Debut 7" only, hand numbered on the back from the good folks at Too Pure. What the label says: Coinciding with the release of Electrelanes ‘In Berlin’ is the release of Vera November’s striking new single, ‘Red Dream’ b/w ‘A Mouthful of Pebbles’. Vera November is the solo project of Electrelane’s front-woman and multi-instrumentalist Verity Susman. The sound a unique and exciting rebirth where old and new joyously collide, strings soar over furious synth drum beats and accordions cavort , ethereal vocals float in a world of their own and stark keyboard melodies haunt and bewitch. About the humble 7":

The humble 7" is the smallest of the vinyl formats (not including the ridiculous 5") and it's the perfect medium for transporting a couple of new songs by up and coming bands straight into your ears. They're fun and they take up less space in your house than something bigger would. They come in a plethora of exciting colours and fantastical packages, and you can fit about 14 minutes onto one 7". You may have to get up every few minutes to put a new record on but think of the exercise. Don't forget every record you buy plays at least 2 speeds (depending on your stereo) and you need to play all records on all speeds to get the maximum joy from your purchase.
