What we say

Rating: happy This record left our Ant feeling happy.

It's a busy week for Ninja Tune what with the second part of The Bug 12", Ghislain Poirier and an Amon Tobin 12" of remixes that have pricked my ears up. The first is from Warp's Clark who has a heavy offbeat with sparkly metallic music box sounds. I must admit I'm not familiar with the original of 'Kitchen Sink' but this is a cool track in its own right. It wont blow you away but its a decent enough tune. The Sixtoo is a sweet little dirty cruncher. It has his groove but with techier sounds. The Nosia mix sounds like its falling apart until a little dreamy ambient breakdown then it kicks back in with a tumbling kick. Boxcutter shows up to sprinkle some of his dubstep magic on it. A big fat bassline as you'd expect and all sorts of weird noises flying around in the mix. He's talented guy for sure.

What the label says:

To coincide with Amon Tobin’s 7.1 surround sound headline show at the Kentish Town Forum on November 15th, Ninja Tune is releasing this EP of four superb remixes of ‘Kitchen Sink’, one of the standouts from Amon’s critically-acclaimed album ‘Foley Room’.Warp’s Clark (who will also be playing at the Forum show) kicks things off with a mix that can only be described as akin to watching a ballerina rise up out of a music box carrying a chainsaw. Dreamy, childlike, oddly funky and scary. Canadian MC/producer and Ninja-mate Sixtoo gives the original a lacerating acid drive and hypnotic groove.Avant gardists Noisia deconstruct the D&B blueprint, leaving gaps in their rollouts and a fairytale atmosphere beneath pounding drums.Whilst Boxcutter (known to his mum as Barry Lynn) ups the intensity a notch further with a seething, intricately-detailed dub-stepper on which he drops a backward guitar solo during the breakdown. The 24-piece Heritage Orchestra will re-imagine 3 tracks from Foley Room for the London Jazz Festival, 3 days after the Forum show.
