What we say

Rating: happy This record left our Ant feeling happy.

Those other radio friendly crossover indie chaps Maximo Park are back with their squillionth single. Initially we had our allocation on the Ltd 7"s cut back in favour of them going to the big corporate chain stores but Phil kicked off and had a good old whinge on here and then some magic happened and we got what we had originally asked for. 'Karaoke Plays' is pure stadium indie. Its like a big festival anthem type track. You can tell they give it their all and the passion comes across. I reckon 'Our Velocity' is the best single off the album so far though. All the tracks are split over the two 7"s and the CD single which has a video and that on it. We're just laughing at a bit in their cover of Justin Timberlake's 'Like I Love You' which just reeks of that Radio 1 live lounge thing where bands cover songs you wouln't expect them too. I'ts a pure novelty /gimmick stuff that I'm surprised these guys have been sucked in by. It does make us chuckle though. It's like Maximo Park trying to sound like Justin Timberlake who's trying to sound like Michael Jackson. Heheh...Jacksimo Park.

One of the most radio friendly songs on the album, Radio 1 and XFM support is guaranteed, with big opportunities at ILR and beyond. The B sides include a further 3 chapters in the obituary series of songs that has graced this year’s singles, this time the subjects are French philosopher Jean Baudrillard, Sixties Labour politician George Brown and American author Jonathan Coleman. The beautiful limited 7” packages, including silver print, coloured vinyl and sheet music, are going to be Maximo’s best ever – and certain to be snapped up by their rabid fanbase and collectors alike.
