What we say

Rating: happy This record left our Ant feeling happy.

Ant here with the new one from the Arctic Monkeys. I bet there's a whole load of you salivating at the thought. The first thing that struck me about 'Teddy Picker' is the pristine production. I bet it cost a few quid. This lot ain't my bag but I'd rather listen to this on the radio than that whimpering UK's answer to Mariah Carey girl off of X Factor. Mingus has piped up and said that this is well 60's. He's got a fair point. It's like a tougher version of The Coral. I can really imagine Bad Woman appearing in a David Lynch movie. You really can't pin these guys down. Although they obviously have their sound they don't milk it to death and keep churning out tracks that sound the same. You get a sense that they haven't become lazy and that a hunger and sense of enjoyment in what they're doing is intact. Interestingly the titles of the second 2 tracks on the CD have been scribbled out and replaced with "The Death Ramps" and "Nettles".

What the label says:

Following the fastest–selling debut in British chart history, ‘Favourite Worst Nightmare’ is a breakneck technicolour journey through screwball punk and guitar-fuelled dancefloor heroics. ‘Favourite Worst Nightmare’s third single ‘Teddy Picker’ shows yet again the confidence of Alex Turner’s usual wit and depicts the modern day media system with its reality TV and B-list celebrities on the cover of the magazines. The chronicle of a shallow world supported by a rock bass based melody is a real crowd pleaser. ‘Teddy Picker’ is available on heavyweight 7” and 10” as well as CD single and digital formats. The B-sides package is very attractive: three exclusive tracks including two new tracks and a cover version, which by itself will delight the fans and encourage sales.

About the humble 10":

The 10" sits somewhere in between the 7" and 10" (kind of like a wierd cousin). This awkward variant exists for no other reason aside from to be different from it's other family members. It can provide less music than a 12" but more than a 7". It's almost like a budget 12" or a posh 7". Either way it's wierd and it needs sorting out. Maybe it's quirkyness has helped it carry on defying all rules and convention? Importantly though it plays at a multitude of speeds so it is still quintessentially a total bargain (albeit a total freak of a bargain).

'does that came with pineapple and egg or do I have to choose one of them?'
