Hyperdub new recruits L.V. deliver probably the most effortless and summery roots-meets-dubstep hybrid to date with ‘Globetrotting’, featuring the sweet vocal tones of Errol Bellot.
L.V. consists of four South East London musicians and producers whose earthy sound, heavy bass, tight programming and lush vocal collaborations provide a welcome reality check in an era of cod reggae lightweights.
Errol Bellot first burst onto the reggae scene in 1981. He began recording for S & G Records, one of the main studios for established artists like Carol Thompson, Sugar Minott and Winston Reedy, and went on to voice many tracks for the legendary Jah
Tubbys. In the mid-‘80s he joined North London’s ‘Unity Sound’, and in the early ‘90s sang on the prestigious sound King Original.
On the flip, ‘Takeover’ finds L.V. taking it even deeper, this time with their syrupy low end voiced by Dandelion.
Dandelion is the vocalist with Free King Sound, which has been running since 2002 and consists of Lawrence (aka Dub L) Jim (aka King Jimmy) and Drew at the controls.
IDJ, him seh…“A genuine dubstep/reggae fusion, that craftily avoids the pitfalls of resuscitating digi-dub, and instead, originates a highly promising prototype. [ ‘Globetrotting’ ] produces a silicon roots cut that's as willfully slow as Loefah, yet glides in Rhythm & Sound's radiant slipstream. Minimal and magical. 'Takeover' is equally enchanting, as vocalist Dandelion casts a captivating spell. Beautifully deep. 5/5”
