Lacrosse: 'This New Year Will Be For You And Me' (Tapete) Since I first heard the promo of this debut long player I've been playing it to death at every opportunity here at Norman Towers. Not sure how much this has bugged the others as much as it's bugged me. When I mean bugged, I'm on about the way these simple but effective tracks just get under your skin. After just a couple of plays it's like you've known these songs since the day you were born-like your mother was piping them through her tubes into the womb where you've cozied up waiting for your introduction to earth. These tracks sound naive and sickly sweet, that's part of their charm but, it's also that nagging effect they have of getting you to question why you like them. I just submitted to the charming simplicity and devil-may-care attitude. These tracks, dare I say it, are full of the first flushes of new love (Mingus is getting emotional here) which is summoned up in the single 'You Can't Say No Forever'. This set will appeal to fans of the pure unforgiving joys of pop music, and as I've mentioned before their comparable to early Arcade Fire or Polyphonic Spree. In my even softer moments I love this CD.Lacrosse are from Stockholm, Sweden and play wonderfully catchy, sparkly pop melodies. German mag Musicexpress said of the 7" 'You Can't Say No Forever' "...Hidden-Cameras-Choirs meet Bubblegum-Glampop and Arcade-Fire-Structures. If you loved 'Sunflower' by the Beach Boys and the music of The Turtles, I'm From Barcelona, and The Lovin' Spoonful then this is for you! With a load of energy, two intense lead vocalists, incredibly sweet guitar melodies and blazing drum beats, Lacrosse is the musical equivalent of endless summer nights when the world is young and beautiful and everything seems possible. Two Lacrosse songs are featured in Daniel Espinosa's feature film "Outside Love".
