What we say

Rating: unmoved This record left our Mingus Rude feeling unmoved.

Violet Violet: ''Love This Band' (NROne) Rockin' girl band taking it's cue from Bikini Kill and Huggy Bear in the attitude stakes. Taking the boys on at their own game with two aggressive slices of thrasy rock with vocals to the fore.If they were boys I'd be tempted to dismiss them as pub rockers, in this case I'll pratonisingly accept them as an antidote to the usual dull fair.

What the label says:

Double A-side 7" yellow vinyl, CD single and download
A perfect pair of meaty, beaty slices of acerbic gossip rock bitchin' in yer face from Norwich's most feisty female trio. Violet Violet have the vehement support of Steve Lamacq, who won't stop spinning VV's witty ditties on Radio 1 and 6Music, and he interviewed the girls as his 'favourite new band' in August. In favour with Artrocker, Drowned in Sound, NME and Rocksound - not to mention notching up a tour with Brummie legends The Nightingales and a personal invitation to open for Blood Red Shoes. It's time to join Violet Violet's gossip rock, grrrl/boy revolution now!. "Thrilling guitar pop, Violet Violet sum up the real energy of the DIY-movement at present." - Steve Lamacq, Radio 1 "Something quite special (even if it is fabulously foul-mouthed)" - NME
"Headless-style femi-punk… producing what could be called Rrrriot-metal. Or Metal-grrrrl … Echoes of bands like Huggy Bear, Gertrude and Bikini Kill
litter proceedings: shouty vocals, angry 'bitchy' lyrics and big punk riffs" - (Artrocker)

About the humble CD single:

Another digital format and even though they can hold 80 minutes of information (like a CD album would) record companies only fill up a small portion of the disc. Sometimes only 1 or 2 tracks on there totalling 5 minutes or so. It's like going to a restaurant and getting a plate of food with 2 green beans on and wondering where the rest of your meal is. Sometimes they're lovingly packaged though and when the music is good then you're into a winner. Also you get videos on there sometimes which you can watch on your computer. That is excellent.
