Ant here folks fresh from a week off and getting straight back into review action with a proper exciting Zaimph CD on Utech. Regulars of these pages will know that I salivate every time a release bearing queen Marcia Basset's (GHQ, Hototogisu, Double Leopards) name arrives. Her Zaimph guise has seen outings on Prurient's Hospital Productions label. Gipsy Sphinx and Heavy Tapes. 'La Nuit Electrique' consists of 4 tracks composed with Guitar, Voice and Electronics. It begins with intricately layered guitar and affects that just weave their way into your subconscious. Truly magical stuff. The second track has a wailing drone which builds into a heavier guitar freak out. Things get more intense, noisy and distorted on the third track. Blink and you'll miss the few second noise blast that is the final track. Wicked.Marcia Bassett (Double Leopards, Hototogisu) rears Zaimph's vile head once again on La Nuit Electrique. A raspy, delicate instrumental passage begins like a crippled music box. Elegant and soporose. Blackened guitar and amplification apprise the rest. Acrid feedback hangs in the air and vocal modulations clot inside dark rivers of current. The night electric.
