What we say

Rating: happy This record left our Phil feeling happy.

The fine Capsule folks from Birmingham have started a label and here's a comp CD called ' Supersonic 06' which is essentially the soundtrack to the previous years Supersonic festival. This features tracks from Zombi, Circle, Modified Toy Orchestra, Michael Gira, Alexander Tucker, High On Fire and lots more. It's a cool comp and well worth checking out. If I said it was both super and sonic you'd probably hit me if you could reach.

What the label says:

Since 1999 the Capsule duo have been champions of all things avant-garde, together they present a year round programme of live music, events and exhibitions, and are the brains behind the Supersonic Festival.
The annual Supersonic festival is an eclectic and experimental playground, where new and emergent talent exhibit their skills alongside established and world-renowned practitioners. Whilst the focus is on experimental sonic work, supersonic acts an umbrella for creative and experimental practice in any media or art form.
If enlightenment is what you need then this exemplary compilation will provide you with a glimpse into the realms of a festival that, despite it’s relative early infancy, is undoubtedly setting a distinguishable and reputable benchmark for purveyors of experimental music. Or perhaps you just want to relive the highlights from the 2006 Supersonic Festival.
10 tracks, 49 minutes from artists who featured at the 2006 Supersonic Festival including names such as High On Fire , Michael Gira , Michael Rother etc plus an exclusive previously unreleased track from Finnish krautrock masters Circle.

About the humble CD:

The CD is essentially a small portable face mirror which has an extra feature of being able to play music (through a thing known as a CD player). These CD's are a modern invention hence them being all shiny and digital. They can hold about 80 minutes of music and apparently are indestructible as you can smear jam on them and they still play (not as nourishing as toast mind you but when you're hungry.....). They sound crystal clear and are tiny convenient things. They lack the charm and warmth of their old analogue counterparts but their portability, convenience and ease of being duplicated make them a perfect thing of a thing for most folks. Jewel cases are the worst thing ever though and they really need to stop.
