The North Sea - In The Time Of The Sugar Pines

In The Time Of The Sugar Pines by The North Sea

In the burgeoning underground psych, folk, and noise movement, The North Sea’s Brad Rose serves as both one of its biggest champions and contributors. His Digitalis Industries imprint, 160+ release strong Foxglove CDR series, and Foxy Digitalis online magazine have not just pushed forward but unearthed many unknown, remote artists in the genre and helped create and extend the community. Brad has been making his own music since the mid 90s and has been a member of such bands as the Juniper Meadows, the Golden Oaks, and the Cone Bearers. The North Sea is his solo experimental / ambient / improvisational folk music project and, like much of the folk music in the movement, looks to bring together the style of folk music with the feeling, sound, and aura of nature. In this project, Rose mixes nature field recordings - birds, air and leaves - with a wide variety of stringed instruments. In the Times of the Sugar Pines stands as Brad's last predominantly folk recording under The North Sea name as he continues to search and expand his sound into more abstract realms. This exploration can be heard on the album as the sound carries a more ethnic European feel on several tracks, bringing out darker tones and more impassioned playing, creating a wonderful bridge between his old sound and new.
