Ben Perowsky, the supremely talented drummer and back up vocalist with Joan As Policewoman as well as NYC’s most in demand drummer/percussionist, has been working away in his Brooklyn studio on this groundbreaking new release for El Destructo Records. Ben, son a jazz musician, early graffiti artist, young fan of rock, hiphop and jazz, was exposed to a vast landscape of music and art while rampaging through the streets of N.Y.C as a kid. He is a hugely respected and admired drummer, his skills have taken him across the globe many times over and put him in touch with many influential artists. Roy Ayers, John Cale, John Zorn, John Scofield, Lounge Lizards, Mike Stern, Salif Keita, Elysian Fields, Don Byron and Walter Becker and Joan As Police Woman are just a few of the incredible people Perowsky has worked alongside. Moodswing Orchestra pulls together a cast of stars all connected to the N.Y.C. music scene, however wide the array, Ben has produced a record that is monumental in it’s depth and breadth crossing many genres (jazz, electronica, avant garde, rock and hiphop). Culminating from a year of live improv based performances, the sessions for this record started out with Ben in the studio along with the experimental turntablist/electronics wizard Markus Lyons Miller (Billy Martin, Christian Marclay),the pianist/keyboardist/singer Glenn Patscha (Levon Helm, Ollabelle, Craig Street, Marianne Faithful), the bassist/singer/composer Oren Bloedow (Elysian Fields, Meshell Ndegeocello) along with legendary drummer/producer Dougie Bowne for encouragement and studio magician Pat Dillet (Mary J. Blige, David Byrne, Notorius B.I.G.,B52’s)at the now defunct infamous “Unique Recording studios”. Ben then took his recordings to a remote cabin in the mountains, resurfacing with the bulk of material to be enhanced by the rest of the orchestra. Collaborators on this album include songstress’ Joan Wasser (Joan As Policewoman, Rufus Wainwright, Antony and the Johnsons), Miho Hatori (Cibo Mato, Gorrilaz, Beastie Boys) Jennifer Charles (Elysian Fields, Lovage, Feotus), Elyas Khan (Nervous Caberet), and a special appearance/rapping debut by Brazilian diva Bebel Gilberto.
