New Cassettes release their 2nd single...The 1st one was on Fantastic Plastic and this one is on Maps label Last Space Recordings. Recover/ Retreat is a nice old fashioned jangly piece of catchy indie rock. Again I'm reminded of Bloc Party a little. Competent stuff though.Purveyors of fine noise since 2005, Northampton five-piece unleash their second single on November 5th.
New Cassettes start round two with ’Recover / Retreat’ which finds itself at home on the independent label, Last Space Recordings - erstwhile home to Mercury Prize nominees Maps.
’Recover / Retreat’ harks back to the days of long hot summers, the sound of young Northants for now people...it’s backed with ’I’m Always Right’ and makes all the right noises (at least to these ears)
The band’s first outing came in the shape of the single ’You Won’t Stop’, released on Fantastic Plastic last year but it hasn’t been a year of doing nothing...having formed and playing purely for the fun of it they managed to bag
support slots with the likes of The Strokes and Adam Green as well as appearances at both Latitude and Wireless Festivals culminating in their set on the ’BBC Introducing...’ stage at Glastonbury.
Following on from their Glastonbury appearance on the ’BBC Introducing...’ stage, New Cassettes will be taking part in this year’s Electric Proms as one of the ’BBC EP Introducing’ acts, when they play London’s Camden Barfly on 26th October alongside Reverend and the Makers and The Metros. The band will also be contributing a new song as part of the ’BBC Introducing’ series where all the artists will write a new song to the most selected combination of genre and words as selected as users of the website, the four songs will then be filmed at a private gig prior to the Electric Proms.
Limited to 500 only.
