Pumps: 'Afraid Of Laughs' (New Slang) Conversational style indie pop tune about the trials and tribulations of young love. The backing is drums, bass, guitars and what sounds like some tinkling synth lines. Short, sharp, sweet and almost naively quaint in approach. Like a Sarah band of the eighties fronted by an overly observational male. Sounds like he's been acused of being too serious. If you like Violent Femmes or an middle England Jonathan Richmond style song writer. One for the radio.

PUMPS'  have hooked up with Kingston based imprint -- New Slang Records (home to Tellison, Winterkids) -- to release live favourite (a touching tale of self doubt, sexual irresponsibility and bad dancing) AFRAID OF THE LAUGHS as a limited 7" single. With the B-side set to be the lesser know, punky complaint romp Leonard Bernstein. PUMPS' brilliance lies in their unique band dynamic and nonchalant delivery of acoustic-guitared, anthemic pop songs that people can relate to and say "yes, this is the soundtrack to my life."  Too difficult to find comparison bands, PUMPS opt out from the trends and fads of today , but fans of Vincent Vincent, Winterkids and Good Shoes, who've seen Pumps open up for them, have all lapped up this gloriously unique band.
