High Priests - Self Prescribed Medicine

Self Prescribed Medicine by High Priests

Debut album from new London band High Priests, described as being like "the Velvet Underground on Motown". From the opening chords of the first track to the dying, wailing feedback of the last, High Priests pack a punch of hi-intensity pop rock soul. The band display a level of pure energy in their performance not seen since the days of The MC5 and also show their softer side with some classic ballads. All of the songs on "Self Prescribed Medication" were written while lead singer / songwriter and guitarist Dan was living rough in a public park in Central London. As a result the songs are imbued with heartbreak, drunken debauchery, drug abuse, fast living and slow dying… great pop songs wearing their influences proudly on their sleeves.
Their debut single 'Hibernation' was awarded Single Of The Week by Rough Trade who described it as "driving 60's style pop songs that sound like a
mix of lo-fi Supergrass, the Velvets and an uptempo Clinic with a singer that has the same vocal drawl as Jonathan Richman"
The band continue to play live everywhere and a tour is being planned to support the release of the album.
