The latest single from the Regal Singles Club is ‘Star Crossed Lovers’
/ ‘Chom Chom’ by Manchester’s A Boy Called Doris, released 8th October.
Imagine if you will a chance meeting between Lou Reed, Mazzy
Star and the Couteau Twins at a Northern folk club. Armed only with a
Tandy handheld tape recorder and a £5.99 microphone from Dixons, you
attempt to capture the results... A boy called Doris, a girl named
Spanner and an enigmatic bass player known only as Rah form a band.
They like rolling tobacco, recording in back bedrooms in the early
hours and the several small villages that are scattered around the
Manchester conurbation... particularly Rawtenstall.
Together
they make delicate, sun-kissed pop songs about monkeys, Shakespeare
plays and odd ball Mancunians; drenched in girl-boy-girl vocals, chimy
acoustic guitars and firmly rooted pop sensibilities, witness the
gorgeous ‘Star Crossed Lovers’ and ‘Chom Chom’ (so-called because the
guitars go chom chom, just in case you were wondering).

I like it - it's eclectically different
