Quarta 330:'Sunset Dub' (Hyperdub) More of an experimental take on the usually rather generic dubstep template. Quartz 330's lead kut and the remix of Kode 9's '9 Samurai', is a glitchy, computer game themed, analogue infused digital splurge full of crashes and blips. It's like keeping the loping skank of dub reggae and piling the aesthetics of the recent clicks and cuts or retro electronica genres and applying it to the bass led flow of output the associated with this scene. The sort of experimentation necessary to help move this movement along.

Reinforcing Hyperdub’s reputation for consistent inconsistency in respecting their own sonic template, this release from young Japanese producer Quarta 330 literally jumps off the vinyl, with each rhythmic element like its own micro-explosion in your speakers. These two 8-bit tunes will remind many of an early generation of video games, but in the dance, they work like ring tones for the bass generation. ‘Sunset Dub’ buzzes in with its skittering, glitchy skank and a brain tingling melody grabs you like a synthetic snake charmer. On the flip, Quarta 330 drags Kode9’s 2005 epic ‘9 Samurai’ screaming into the arcade to get its circuits mangled. Quarta 330’s 8-bit soundset reminds us that progress is not always forward motion, and that nerve-singeing sonics, body-popping rhythms and abused machinery will always have a place in our heart. Not for the over 18s. Contains additives.
