BEE STINGS is the 15th album by Scottish indie-pop godfathers BMX
Bandits. Usually 15 albums into a career you aren't expecting to hear
something new or different but BMX Bandits have never allowed
themselves to be limited by others, often mis-guided, preconceptions.
From their naive debut E102, described by Sounds as "the worst single
ever made" to their genre busting slice of pop sophistication Serious
Drugs and to the heartbreaking true life confessional of their previous
album My Chain (2006) "a dream marriage of Brian Wilson and Michel
Legrand's Umbrellas of Cherbourg" they've charmed and surprised those
willing to open their ears and their minds. BEE STINGS is the first BMX
album proper to showcase the voice of new lady Bandit Rachel Mackenzie.
Lead Bandito Duglas T Stewart has found a voice to express his inner
girl through Rachel and Bee Stings is an album with two narratives
running through it, male and female, but occasionally the stories cross
over and blur into each other. Bee Stings features a sensual and tender
gender swap reading of Will Oldham's After I Made Love To You and a new
compostion by ex-Bandit Norman Blake (Teenage Fanclub) and new Bandit
Rachel, Our Secret Life. BMX Bandits have recently played sell out
shows in Barcelona, New York and Tokyo and continue to delight and
confuse long term fans while finding new believers looking for
something real, something from the heart.
