Cut Off Your Hands - Still Fond/ Closed Eyes

Still Fond/ Closed Eyes by Cut Off Your Hands

3...according to our on Thu 04 Oct, 2007.

Next up is Cut Off Your Hands with a 7" called Still Fond on Label Fandango. It sounds like a thousand and one bands and not one single one of them springs to mind. It's possibly a bit like The Rifles if anyone still remembers them?

CUT OFF YOUR HANDS are four young men from Auckland, New Zealand. They consist of Nick (vocals), Phil (bass), Michael (guitar) and Brent (drums). Produced by ex-Suede-ette Bernard Butler 'Still Fond' / 'Closed Eyes' is their first official UK release and follows a springtime visit to these shores which still has audiences' ears sizzling.

Gutter rock enthusiasts may care to note that singer Nick is a deceptively peachy-faced hybrid of Mudhoney's Mark Arm and a youthful Iggy Pop who isn't averse to clambering onto any nearby bars mid-set. Similarly, on a musical front CUT OFF YOUR HANDS dabble in indie smoke and rock mirrors: the a-side of this hear single is called 'Still Fond' and it shines with a Smithsian lilt disguising a less-than-sweet message; the tearaway aa-side 'Closed Eyes', frankly Bill Shankly, sounds like Sonic Youth on very big melody drugs. It's pop kids, but not as Heat magazine knows it.

CUT OFF YOUR HANDS hereby become the seventeenth act to wear the heartily DIY colours of wee indie Label Fandango following in the marching footsteps of young gunslingers as varied as Air Traffic, Ra Ra Riot, Assembly Now, Brinkman and a dozen more. To prove that they are still fond of us cats in the UK CUT OFF YOUR HANDS are heading out on the following tour as special guests of the equally potent Foals. Lock up your doormats here, there and everywhere...
