Fairmont - Coloured In Memory

Coloured In Memory by Fairmont

‘Coloured In Memory’ is the best techno debut album since either
Vitalic ‘OK Cowboy’ or Agoria ‘Blossom’.
Just as impressively it is the 3rd home run of an album from the
Border Community stable, following the Nathan Fake and Holden
debuts last year.
Like all of these albums ‘Colured In Memory’ manages to combine
forward thinking techno with the vitality of the best modern pop.
From early releases on Traum, Echochord, Kompakt and Dumb,
Fairmont's understated techno enjoyed a loyal following and critical
acclaim amongst the cognoscenti.
When Gazebo was released on Border Community in December of
2005 however it became an instant classic encouraging Jake to give
the Fairmont sound a bigger focus, stretching minimal techno into
the pop format rather than the experimental.
It is perhaps these less-classifiably techno, more deviant moments
where the album shines. The demented-surf-rock-electro of 'Bikini
Atoll,' the heroin-drone-trance of 'I Need Medicine', the mellow folkhop
of 'Calm Before The Storm' and the straight ahead pop of
‘Times Fool’.
That said, 'Mobula' continues Fairmont's quest for the perfect
melodic techno song, 'All Good things' furthers his catalogue of
electronica gems, and standout track and first single, ‘Flight Of The
Albatross’ feels new and fresh when put up against the uninspired
minimal tools dominating the techno scene at the moment.
With enough dance-floor cuts to please the DJ's and enough
listening tracks to pacify everyone else (including nerds) 'Coloured
In Memory' is destined to be regarded as one of the most
impressive Border Community release to date
