Love this track, I've been hearing it on and off for a while so it's good to see it's finally gonna get a release. I heard Zane Lowe play it last week so it they may be one to watch in the near future.

Rating: happy This record left our Mingus Rude feeling happy.

Troubadours: 'Gimme Love' (Mod Art Sounds) Just as the nights are drawing in and the clocks go back again, these mop-top popsters decide to provide us with some breezy summertime themed pop. The sound is all jangly and upbeat with vocals to the fore, naive and innocent in it's approach but carefully crafted and carried off with great aplomb. Not exactly breaking any new ground, this retro fixated brand of pop-not that dissimilar to The Coral-has a bold simplicity that has 'classic' and 'inspired' written all over it. Judging by the pre-orders we've had for this it could be huge. A possible tip for the top sez Mr Phil. You heard it her first...fans of the LA's and North West Coast (of England) pop, take head.On 7" vinyl and CD.

What the label says:

It’s a marriage made in guitar pop heaven. Take The Troubadours - a gang of four early 20’s Wigan and Liverpool lads who’ve been rapidly building a reputation as one of the north west’s most exciting new bands.
Put them together with esteemed producer John Leckie, famed for his work with the likes of the Stone Roses,
Radiohead and Pink Floyd amongst many others, and the first results are ’Gimme Love - a soaring, shimmering debut single that manages to channel the band’s love of Beefheart, Love and The Seeds and the best bits of their hometown’s tune-rich musical heritage into four minutes of perfect pop.
The Troubadours are: Mark Frith - vocals, guitar, piano, harmonica; Johnny Molyneux - lead guitar; Tony Ferguson - bass; Nathan Watts - drums
7" Limited to 500, CD limited to 1000.

About the humble 7":

The humble 7" is the smallest of the vinyl formats (not including the ridiculous 5") and it's the perfect medium for transporting a couple of new songs by up and coming bands straight into your ears. They're fun and they take up less space in your house than something bigger would. They come in a plethora of exciting colours and fantastical packages, and you can fit about 14 minutes onto one 7". You may have to get up every few minutes to put a new record on but think of the exercise. Don't forget every record you buy plays at least 2 speeds (depending on your stereo) and you need to play all records on all speeds to get the maximum joy from your purchase.
