What could be better than eating a fine selection of mini Indian snacks and listening to some timeless early Black Dog. Oh the sheer joy! 'The Cost' has been reissued on Soma. Freshly remastered with a good cut. Sheer heaven. The tracks still sound fresh all these years later. Although these days this stuff is called electronica, back in the day it was simply called techno. Inspired by the sounds of Detroit. This is pure machine soul. Magical stuff. Includes 'Cost I' and 'Cost II' with 'The Actor And The Audience' and 'Sharp Shooting On Saturn' on the flip. Essential reissue.

‘The Cost’ was originally released in 1993 alongside The Black Dog’s groundbreaking ‘Temple Of Transparent Balls’ album on the GPR label. 14 years later, Soma fittingly prepare to re-release one of the albums that influenced the label’s very existence.‘Cost I’ is a bouncy slice of electronica, verging on hip hop at times, full of cross-rhythmic melodies and an infectious groove, dodging genre as only The Black Dog do so well.‘Cost II’, meanwhile, is slightly more uptempo in its beats, but much more ambient in its flow. This was one of the defining tracks of The Black Dog in its original release.‘The Actor And Audience’ ups the pace further. An insanely genius cut of breakbeat madness before ‘Sharp Shooting On Saturn’ brings you back down with a track that’s as nostalgic as it is futuristic.ï‚·This EP is the final Black Dog re-release, but watch out for some brand new work in the close future.
