What the label says:

Peter Hedley’s Beneath Fire & Smoke project makes its debut with this a beautifully sculptured and experimental record that defies categorisation. Written, recorded and produced by Pete somewhere between South East London and his parents’ home in the Welsh countryside, Beneath Fire & Smoke is the amalgamation of a classical training, a mammoth record collection and boundless enthusiasm.Hypnotically wonky, this single is a sneaky peak into one of the most varied and experimental musical scrapbooks you are likely to hear. Infused with Krautrock sensibilities, aching classical flourishes and a healthy dose of skewed electronica, it is difficult to pigeonhole this record into any contemporary mainstream genre. Coupled with an ‘organic’ live set that veers from fully blown band backing to a one-man-beat-heavy electronic headfuck or simply layer-upon-layer of repetitive violin, Voice Of The Seven Woods and All Traps Set collaborator Pete has produced some of the most original and alluring music Battered Ornaments has heard for a very long time - also earning himself a small but cult following. This strictly limited to 500 copies only hand numbered 7” artefact is the second release from the bespoke Battered Ornaments label, headed by Doug Shipton (Finders Keepers / Delay 68) - a label with a DIY aesthetic producing lovingly made limited vinyl runs of off-kilter independent music housed in jaw dropping sleeves created by top artists and graphic designers – this record comes housed in a sleeve courtesy of designer and DJ Tim Watkins

About the humble 7":

The humble 7" is the smallest of the vinyl formats (not including the ridiculous 5") and it's the perfect medium for transporting a couple of new songs by up and coming bands straight into your ears. They're fun and they take up less space in your house than something bigger would. They come in a plethora of exciting colours and fantastical packages, and you can fit about 14 minutes onto one 7". You may have to get up every few minutes to put a new record on but think of the exercise. Don't forget every record you buy plays at least 2 speeds (depending on your stereo) and you need to play all records on all speeds to get the maximum joy from your purchase.
