Killa Kela’s ‘OnTour VanDamage’ mix CD is his first proper release since 2006’s ‘Elocution’ album. Expertly compiled and mixed by Plus One of the Scratch Perverts, it contains 100% original Kela material and truly shows off his undeniable diversity and originality as an artist. Smashed together are brand-new studio-fresh tracks alongside complete re-workings of older material, tied together by a rich vein of live recordings ingeniously interspersed throughout the mix. Witness Kela on stage staggering various audiences across the world, as well hearing first hand how effortlessly he collaborates with a whole host of different artists, including Get Cape Wear Cape Fly, Wiley, Adam Freeland, Roots Manuva, Does It Offend You Yeah?, Clipz and Plan B, just to name a few. It’s an amazingly creative listen, shifting like the proverbial cold drinks in hot weather at Kela live dates for the last few months, and now available in the shops for the first time. The mix CD format CD plays to all of his strengths, seamlessly running from track to radio session to live performance, making 35 minutes of non-stop, pent-up energy that systematically defines where Kela is at as an artist. A specially-devised live show to promote the CD will visit 19 venues throughout the UK between September and N, in which Kela will perform his world-famous multi-vocal magic, alongside Andy Knowles (Franz Ferdinand) on drums, Spider J (Lee ‘Scratch’ Perry band) on bass, plus DJ and host MC. An extensive press campaign with high profile features in all main dance monthlies is beginning to gather pace, while previous on-the-page praise for the man includes “[He] might be the world’s best beatboxer…yet [he] makes you dance as much as bow down to his skills. Now that’s talent.” (NME), “So far ahead of what else is out there, it’s frightening” (Touch), “One of the most exciting UK talents to emerge…” (The Times), and “Pharrell has called him the best beatboxer in the world. But that is an understatement. When you can throw beats like a drum machine with your mouth, sing with a Prince-like pitch and write an album’s worth of killer tracks, your talent can’t be pigeonholed” (New Nation).
