Serious Sam Barrett - The Yorkshire Rambler EP

The Yorkshire Rambler EP by Serious Sam Barrett

4...according to our on Thu 17 Jul, 2008.

Serious Sam Barrett now & his 10" plate of fun. He's a West Yorkshire based chap who makes some pretty cool authentic bluegrass music along the lines of Charlie Parr but with a subtle flighty Yorkshire twist! Hence 6 tracks of earthy, foot-stomping wonderment make up 'The Yorkshire Rambler' EP. For those in different countries, a Yorkshireman is what I am, IE a stubborn, tight fisted alcoholic from Northern England with mental problems ;0) and a rambler is someone who walks miles and miles through fields & moors full of scruffy sheep and tumbling bracken to just find a pub so they can get wrecked on Black Sheep Bitter then stagger back in the dark and fall down a ditch unconscious. I love this county! Yippee!

Serious Sam Barrett is a solo acoustic artist drawing on a vast range of traditional idioms to create his own unique sound. His songwriting contains echoes of the great blues masters such as Bukka White and Blind Willie Mctell but also of American folk artists such as the Carter Family. Raised in the English folk tradition, Sam also draws heavily on English, Irish and Scottish folk music and arranges his own unique versions of traditional songs taking influence from such luminaries as Ewan Mcoll, Tim Hart and the Watersons. Sam is known for his direct, uncompromising heartfelt live performances and has pursued a remarkably busy gig schedule since embarking on a solo career in 2005. Sam is as comfortable playing in folk clubs as he is in font of rock and punk audiences and his fan base is composed of music lovers from the folk, blues, country and punk scenes. Sam has developed a strong following across England and beyond, having recently toured Califonia playing in pubs, clubs and cafes across the state. The Yorkshire Rambler EP is available on 10" format and contains both Sam's original material and his arrangements of traditional songs from both sides of the Atlantic. 1: Tongue Tied Blues (2.35) 2: Stella (2.53) 3: Dying Bed (2.47) 4: Rolling In My Sweet Baby's Arms (3.14) 5: Adieu Sweet Lovely Nancy (3.31) 6: The Foggy Dew (5.58)
