The Young Republic - Modern Plays

Modern Plays by The Young Republic

4...according to our on Thu 13 Sep, 2007.

The Young Republic get my vote for sleeve of the week. Well after that ridiculous thing on loAF with the cows on. It's a painting of some tragic scene from a play and the record is called 'Modern Plays'. The music is widescren strummy acoustic pop that goes a bit freeform jazz baroque somewhere along the line with some wonky squawking brass over a kinda summery Wombats style indie jobbie. It's got some life in it and doesn't sound horribly trendy. it's got silver leaf embossed print on the sleeve to to give it a classy edge & is numbered & limited.

THIRD IN THIS HIGHLY SOUGHT AFTER RUN OF LIMITED 7" SINGLES. HAVING WON OVER CRITICS AND AUDIENCES ALIKE WITH THEIR WHISTLESTOP UK TOUR IN JUNE, THIS BOSTON 8 PEICE RETURN WITH THEIR WELL ORCHESTRATED, LOVELORN JANGLE POP.CHANELLING THE FINEST MOMENTS OF BRITISH INDIE (THE LIKES OF LLOYD COLE, CAMERA OBSCURA AND EARLY BELLE AND SEBASTIAN OFTEN REAR THEIR HEADS INREVIEWS) THIS SINGLE SUMS UP THE BAND IN A NUTSHELL. WITH VOCALS HARMONIES TO DIE FOR, LYRICS ABOUT MEETING UP IN ART HISTORY CLASSES,STRINGS SWOOPS AND A KILLER WIT, THIS SONG SHOULD CONTINUE TO SPREAD THE WORD OF THE YOUNG REPUBLIC FAR AND WIDE.EXCLUSIVE B-SIDE.LIMITED TO 1000 COPIES ONLY.
