David and Russell are a London based electronic
duo in their twenties. Having met through mutual
friends, their love of the same music led to the
conception of AutoKratz. Their sound embodies the
attitude and style of Kitsuné, the pioneering Parisian
label who have brought the world the likes of
Digitalism, Simian Mobile Disco and Klaxons,
adding yet another electronic act of merit to its
remarkable roster.
Their inspirations are evident in flashes of Kraftwerk,
Daft Punk and Underworld, but AutoKratz pride
themselves on creating something unique.
Their debut release, ReaKtor (released through Kitsuné
on Monday 24th September), is an electro monster
dominated by a vigorous hook with added glitches,
bleeps and pulsating melodies. David autoKratz
describes the track as being inspired by the films 12
Monkeys and La Jetée: “It’s a song that creates a vivid
picture in your mind, of panic and confusion,”
Russell adds “and creating imagery is what autoKratz
is about, making you think. And dance”.
The other side of the record is taken up by the Daft
Punk-esque bleepy stomper It’s On, with a compulsive
vocal hook over a fat glitch funk backbeat that
typifies the fullness of the autoKratz sound.
autoKratz have come a long way in the short time
since their formation, generating a great deal of
excitement throughout electronic music, and have
already notched up an impressive list of shows
including sets at Fabric with Digitalism and Para One,
The Camden Crawl at Koko alongside Goose and The
Damned and a string of shows and warehouse parties
across Europe. They have crafted a rip-roaring live
show and visibly brim with energy and confidence,
and it is this energy and a connection with the crowd
that has got people talking.
And now that autoKratz have signed to Kitsuné for
their debut album, it looks like this could be the start
of something special.
