'Hot Banana Wave', by Stranger Son Of WB out on on Marquis Cha Cha. Its a high tempo crash bang single about surfing. I believe they listen to a lot of Captain Beefheart and it's got a certain tomato madness that's quite infectious. The beats are excited, the guitar work crazy and the vocals chanting and Mark E Smith tinged. Also it's the crazy ass brass section that make it sound so wonky and uplifting. Nearly fabulous.Hot Banana Wave was written and first performed while the band was holidaying in Hawaii. It’s the best song ever written about an ice-cream Sundae surfing the 15 Foot-ers.
It’s even more incredible when you discover the band are a bunch of chaps from Manchester who listen to endless Captain Beefheart, Monks, The Fall, Can and Part Chimp.
“Hot Banana Wave” is backed with “Bidding For Kidneys” and is released on Marquis Cha Cha on September 10th.
