What we say

Rating: ecstatic This record left our Mingus feeling ecstatic.

Pole: 'Steingarten Remixes' (Scape) First up is the pferd: melchior productions' zodiac mix which is a skipping technoid beat with lonesome backwards-forwards sounding keyboard/melodica refrain. The beat views in and out of focus in a late night, early morning haze. The flip has dimbiman remixing 'achterbahn' and mike huckaby turning in a synth mix of dusseldorf. The latter is fashionably minimal, heavily percussive leaning towards a mid-set DJ work out with the odd smattering of melody. The final mix is more on the Basic Channel, hissing hi-hats and aquatic washes. Modern day Techno heads will be loving this as it's all suitably lower case in approach.

What the label says:

POLE'S outstanding album "Steingarten" inspired his friends and colleagues to produce a series of remixes that are now presented on four limited
coloured vinyl. Remixes are by the owner of the Berlin based Perlon label DIMBIMAN aka DJ ZIP, a mix by one of his artists, MELCHIOR
PRODUCTIONS, (previous releases on several club classics - Perlon, Playhouse, Cadenza a.o..) and MIKE HUCKABY (Harmonie Park, Deep
Transportation, Synth a.o.) turns the track into a massive dub techno piece.
Tracklisting: A: Pferd - Melchior Productions' Zodiac Mix (7:37), B1. Achterbahn - Dimbiman Remix (Remix And Additional Production By Dimbiman)
(6:45), B2. Düsseldorf - Mike Huckaby S Y N T H Remix-Detroit (6:56)

About the humble 12":

The 12" is the big brother of records as it's an fatter version of the 7", with a vast scope for an array of remixes and B sides. They are slightly less portable their smaller inched brethren but they're by no means inferior. Often the grooves are spaced wider apart and thus sound much much better. You can fit ample tracks on and if worse comes to worse they make fine plates (should your crockery go awol). Yes, there's a hole but holes are easy to sort out. Once again they're available on many different colours and guises. The best thing about a 12" is the potential vastness of the artwork. Also playable on many speeds!!
