Following the initial meeting of Roddy Woomble, Colin Newton and Rod Jones at Edinburgh University in the mid-90s, the newly formed IDLEWILD put their student loans together and released their debut 7” single in 1997. Now a decade later Idlewild release ‘Scottish Fiction’, a ‘Best of...' that compiles some of their many musical highlights of the last 10 years.
With a tracklisting chosen by the band themselves, 'Scottish Fiction' includes classic singles such as American English, You Held The World In Your Arms and Roseability, as well as selected album tracks from their Food/Parlophone releases and this year's Make Another World album on Sequel.
The CD also contains a "digital insert" that allows fans to enter the CD into their computer and download two extra songs (the first two rare Idlewild singles Queen of the Troubled Teens and Chandelier).
The 17 track CD will come packaged with a 3 hour DVD featuring a live concert filmed this year at the Aberdeen Music Hall, all the Idlewild videos with audio commentary from Roddy, PLUS over an hour of unseen documentary footage filmed over the last twelve years (much of it cut to rare songs and unreleased demos).

This is a really well made dvd!these days it seems that a live DVD is something that a band releaces when in need of a bit of money! i recently watched the new REM live DVD and dispite my love of the band was disapointed that it did not capture the band in its live form but instead relied on visual and computerised effcts to create atmosphere! The new Idlewild dvd however is a very well made DVD and captures the bands performance as if you were seeing them perform live!Im my eyes idlewild are a very underrated band and this DVD will give any fan or interetsted viewer an interesting incite into the Scotish band voted third in a pole of all scottish bands ever! the DVD combines live footage of a gig recorded in nottingham and footage of the band recorded over the bands life and give a real incite into the life of idlewild. it is an extreamly well made DVD and will give n amazing backstage pass for any fan or interested onlooker! definatly worth a look it showcases all the bands hits in there live form and is a must for any fan!
