What we say

Rating: ecstatic This record left our Ant feeling ecstatic.

'Bounds Green' is apparently an area of London with a lovely old train station..It's fitting then that Cylob's 'Bounds Green' album is also a thing of beauty. I've followed the work of Chris Jeffs' for many years. My two and a half year old son loves to rave it up to his version of 'Drunken Sailor'. I'd say this is his most personal work to date with some heart wrenching melodies and a deep melancholic vibe. Gone are the robotic electro sounds in exchange for a far simpler human sound. The whole album flows beautifully. This reminds me of some of his Kinesthesia stuff. It harks back to that golden age in electronic music when it was about creating a feeling instead of showing off the latest plugin. If you like the sublime sound of his track 'Kyoto' from one of his Cylob Music System 12"s or his 'Mood Bells' CD then you'd be a fool not to check this out. A self released ltd edition of 100 numbered copies on his own Cylob Industries label, with the wax on Weme Records. Although I reckon this is better suited to CD for those that can't be fucked getting up to flip it over and prefer to "cold chill".Wicked stuff.

What the label says:

Following on from the initial releases on Cylob Industries, which have consisted of new material, the next Cylob album to see the light of day is a set of previously unreleased recordings from 1994-1995, titled "Bounds Green". The album is named after the first area of London that Cylob moved to, around the time of his initial releases on Rephlex. It was also during this era that he was crafting "Cylobian Sunset", which has since come to be regarded as an underground classic. Full of the same warmth, simplicity of style and melancholy as "Sunset", these hitherto lost pieces were rediscovered after a recent trawl through the Cylobian DAT archives.

About the humble CD:

The CD is essentially a small portable face mirror which has an extra feature of being able to play music (through a thing known as a CD player). These CD's are a modern invention hence them being all shiny and digital. They can hold about 80 minutes of music and apparently are indestructible as you can smear jam on them and they still play (not as nourishing as toast mind you but when you're hungry.....). They sound crystal clear and are tiny convenient things. They lack the charm and warmth of their old analogue counterparts but their portability, convenience and ease of being duplicated make them a perfect thing of a thing for most folks. Jewel cases are the worst thing ever though and they really need to stop.

'What do you want me to say? I f**ked your Daddy in the shower and had a snack.'
