What we say

Rating: happy This record left our Maggie feeling happy.

Now that sensitive plucker Jose Gonzalez with his new album 'In Our Nature'. Its pretty and distinctive sounding from the the tasty Swede with vocals and guitar dancing together with evocative beauty. He's got a great sense of rhythm that comes through his playing and vocal delivery that sets him apart from his many singer songwriter contemporaries. Simple and pure. Hey! it's got a cover version of Massive Attack and Elizabeth Fraser's 'Teardrop'. Clotted Cream sounding.

What the label says:

The long awaited follow up to the Platinum selling ‘Veneer’ which sold over 400,000 units in the UK alone and was one of only two independent albums certified platinum in the UK in 2006.When José González became a household name across the world with the help of 250,000 coloured bouncing balls and a Sony Bravia television commercial featuring his spare and moving version of The Knife’s song, ‘Heartbeats’, it was the second time fame came calling and caused a truly remarkable phenomenon. While studying biochemistry at the university of Gothenburg, José’s debut album ‘Veneer’ was released in his Swedish homeland in 2003. It made him a national star. Featuring ‘Heartbeats’ and ten other resonant, acoustic songs, ‘Veneer’ turned José, a Gothenburg (via Argentina) native, into a Top Ten recording artist.   ‘Veneer’s’ highest chart position was number 7 and was in the Top 40 for six months.  José’s recent collaborations have included Kylie Minogue and Zero 7.

About the humble CD:

The CD is essentially a small portable face mirror which has an extra feature of being able to play music (through a thing known as a CD player). These CD's are a modern invention hence them being all shiny and digital. They can hold about 80 minutes of music and apparently are indestructible as you can smear jam on them and they still play (not as nourishing as toast mind you but when you're hungry.....). They sound crystal clear and are tiny convenient things. They lack the charm and warmth of their old analogue counterparts but their portability, convenience and ease of being duplicated make them a perfect thing of a thing for most folks. Jewel cases are the worst thing ever though and they really need to stop.

'Fill the sound potty with sweet musical yellowness.'
