A 7" is available by the lady once known to her schoolmates as Cunliffe. I'm sure it got twisted a little into an unpleasant bastardisation at some point by some horrid reprobates. So she's now just known as Nancy Elizabeth. 'I Used to Try' is raggedy, slightly psychedelic tribalistic folk somewhere between Beth Orton & Sandy Denny. It's quite mantric (is that a word?) & spiritual. Her voice is very lovely and makes me want to dance naked round some woods. Preferably with her. Hahaha. I'd review the B-side but i need to go do a sexy wee.I Used To Try’ is the second single by Lancashire born and bred Nancy
Elizabeth. The single precedes Nancy’s forthcoming debut album, Battle
and Victory, which will be released on September 24.
The single will
be available as a download, and in a limited edition of 750 numbered 7"
singles for the world. With shimmering dulcimer and sparse, booming
percussion, ’I Used To Try’ is a forceful statement of independence. "I
like my world/’cause it’s mine": the song’s strident declarations are
proudly unforgiving. ’In The Morning’ (which is exclusive to this
single) is more contemplative, just Nancy’s delicate piano and
down-to-earth, unaffected vocals.
