Gravenhurst
The Western Lands

This record left our Maggie feeling happy.
Gravenhurst with their album The Western Lands with its shoegazy rock sound on Warp. All traditional instruments are bashed crashed and then occasionally put away in a cupboard to make way for Nick Talbot's soft vocals. Sounds kind of 80's but its a nice enough tunesmithery to tickle the whistle even if its not getting blown...

What their label says...
A triumphant blend of psyche rock & euphoric lo-fi pop via seamless guitar expertise, exploring themes of romance, loss and sheer madness. It features ten epic tracks with echoes of Indies finest My Bloody Valentine and Yo La Tengo, the great Husker Du and the mighty Velvet Underground. Plus it features a truly unique cover of the English folk legends Fairport Convention classic track ‘Farewell, Farewell’.The critics agree too, with Mojo calling up, on receipt of an early sampler, to book an august feature (out now!), NME converting new fans via their office stereo, The Sunday Times citing ‘Trust’ as the “Hottest Download Of The Week” and a rapturous 9/10 review on Drowned In Sound. Other confirmed features are all in the highest quality indie media including Plan B, Timeout and Pitchfork.
